Aarhus Centre Chisinau

The Aarhus Centre Chisinau supports and promotes the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in and around Chisinau.

The mission of the Aarhus Centre Chisinau is to raise the level of public awareness on environmental issues and encourage participation in decision-making.

The above-mentioned tasks are achieved by promoting the Aarhus Convention and its objectives, thus promoting environmental democracy in the country. To achieve sustainable results in environmental protection, the Aarhus Centre Chisinau sets the following strategic goals:

  • Promoting the implementation of the Aarhus Convention through an active behavior and dialog among the Government, NGOs and the general public;
  • Promoting improved accessibility to the environmental information and increasing public participation in the decision-making process;
  • Promoting national implementation of the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) to the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context.

The main areas of activity are: public participation and access to information on environmental matters; management of waste, toxic waste (obsolete pesticides), water; soil remediation; disaster risk reduction and vulnerability; supporting in drafting and promoting political documents on environment at local and national level, drafting and  implementing environmental, civil society laws; establishing partnership and cooperation relations with stakeholders (authorities, business and NGOs); representing interest in international forums on environmental issues.
