Aarhus Centre Issyk-Kul

The Aarhus Centre in Issyk-Kul was established in 2017 and is mainly involved in:

- good environmental governance;

- environmental legislation;

- access to environmental information.

The Aarhus Centre in Issyk Kul works on the implementation of the Aarhus Convention by focusing on:

- Good environmental Governance: collaboration with governmental structures (regional and city state administrations, State Agency of Environmental Protection and Forestry at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Inspectorate for Ecological and Technical Safety at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic), NGOs, International Organizations, and other institutes to promote the solution of a number of environmental problems;
- Environmental Legislation: strengthening the implementation of mechanisms and procedures for public participation in decision-making; monitoring normative legal acts as the Forest Code, Laws “On Protected Areas”, “On Protection and Use of Flora”, “On Wildlife”, “On the Ecological and Economic System of Issyk-Kul”, etc.; conduct training courses for judges of local courts on the use of the provisions of the Aarhus Convention in court cases and on normative legal acts and legislation in the field of environmental protection;
- Access to environmental information: effective involvement of media representatives to highlight environmental topics and principles of the Aarhus Convention; operational access to ecological information; support in ensuring more active participation of the public in decision-making.
