Aarhus Centre Berane

The Aarhus Centre Berane supports and promotes the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Eastern Montenegro.

The Regional Aarhus Center of Berane, cooperate with local authorities, provides access to information, public participation in decision-making and facilitates public access to local judicial authorities.

In our work, we apply the principle based on respect for the right to guarantee gender equality, representation of people belonging to different cultures and nations or national minorities. In particular, we seek to pay attention to issues of the status of women, national communities and people with disabilities.

We are institutionally established as an organizational unit of the Agency for Nature Protection and Environment, and we are one of the two Aarhus Centers established within the Agency, with the support of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism and the OSCE Mission to Montenegro.

Activities include:

1.Coordinating the implementation of the provisions of the Aarhus Convention and facilitating interaction between the authorities, non-governmental organizations and the general public on environmental issues.

2.Active participation in the preparation of the national report on the implementation of the Aarhus Convention

3.Providing assistance related to public participation in the field of environmental impact assessment.

4.Providing services to the public in order to ensure free access to information.

5.Organizing and conducting public hearings, round tables, seminars.

6.Promoting the practice of public participation in decision-making on planned activities whose impact may have an impact on the environment.

 

Aarhus Center Berane, also organized a series of activities on the occasion of April 22 - Earth Day. International Earth Day, April 22, is celebrated every year around the world with various events and actions. They aim to draw public attention to the importance of preserving the environment. In connection with that, seedlings were donated to the Musical School in Berane. On the same day, in cooperation with the Municipality of Berane, PE Komunalno and the non-governmental organization "Northern Country", educational workshops were held and actions of cleaning and planting flowers were organized.
